NEW Casey mayor Lorraine Wreford says an anonymous letter about her political aspirations is nothing but mischief making.
A letter containing questions for Cr Wreford, signed by "a concerned resident of Casey", was mailed to some councillors and the local media last week.
The letter said Cr Wreford had lodged an application on December 11 to be the Liberal-endorsed candidate for the state seat of Mordialloc at next year's election.
"Will Ms Wreford resign as the mayor of Casey if she is elected as the endorsed Liberal candidate to enable her to fight in the state election?" the letter asked.
"If Ms Wreford does not resign as mayor how will she manage the obvious conflict of interests of trying to be the mayor of Casey while needing to campaign in areas like Cheltenham, Parkdale and Dingley in the City of Kingston?"
Cr Wreford, who described the letter as "not completely factual", said plenty of councillors and mayors held other jobs.
"This is a mischievous attempt to destabilise the council by someone who is not even prepared to put their name to it.
"There have been discussions with me regarding political opportunities but because they're internal party matters I cannot comment at this stage."
She said her priority as mayor would always be to work for the best outcomes of the community.
