SOME of the entertainment industry's biggest names will unite next month to honour Drum Theatre identity Paul Streefkerk who died in March.
Last week, Promac Australia announced it would host a celebration concert in honour of the man who built the Drum Theatre to be "the equal of Melbourne Concert Hall in Dandenong".
Promac Australia owner Chris McKenna said Streefkerk was a unique character.
"He loved performers and he was very good at his job.
"Everyone who ever played at the Drum felt so welcome.
"He had this unique ability and talent to make you feel welcome."
McKenna said the concert was a way for the performers to "give back something of what he gave them".
Already confirmed on the program are Julie Anthony, Denise Drysdale, David Hobson, Simon Gallaher, Wendy Stapleton, Philip Gould, Paul Norton, La Prima Opera, Michelle Fitzmaurice, Donald Cant, Paul Hughes, Alison Rae Jones, Kevin Hocking, John Lidgerwood, Cheryl Darvidis, David Cameron, Paul Cengia, City Of Greater Dandenong Band, Dandenong Theatre Company and Windmill Theatre Company.
Julie Anthony said the show would be "bittersweet". "He was an artist and a friend. We appreciate that he cared and he was always there for us, and everyone on the bill is going to feel the same way.
"He understood that we needed good sound and good lighting...what an artist needed, he really did understand.
"This is just one way for us to say thank you."
McKenna said the night would be "upbeat and fun".
"Denise Drysdale will co-compere it with me, so that means anything could happen.
"We are really trying to put the emphasis on fun and celebration because I know Streef and he would not want it any other way."
The celebration concert in honour of the late Paul Streefkerk will be held from 7-9pm, Sunday, May 17 at the Drum Theatre, Dandenong.
Tickets: adults, $39; concession, $37; members, $34. Bookings: 97716666 or www.drumtheatre.com.au All proceeds will go to the Dandenong and Springvale benevolent societies.
