Man charged over burglaries

POLICE have charged a man in Berwick and charged him with 18 crimes committed in the space of just over a month.

George Tasios, 25, from Clayton, faces charges over car theft, burglary, possession of stolen goods and driving offences across outer eastern Melbourne.

The charges include:

--Stealing a ute from the car park of the Clayton swimming pool on November 20 and crashing into a fence in Carroll Road, Oakleigh South.

--Stealing a sedan from the car park of Hallam railway station on December 14.

--Stealing electrical items and personal papers valued at $5000 from a house in Kangaroo Road, Chelsea, on December 16.

--Stealing electrical equipment and jewellery valued at $5000 and personal papers from a house in Ada Court, Narre Warren, on December 15.

--Driving a stolen Nissan 200SX at 110km/h in a 60km/h zone in Springvale on December 21.

--Driving a car in an erratic manner in Springvale on December 23, crashing it into a kerb, and

fleeing from police through the Waltzing Matilda Hotel in Heatherton Road.

Tasios was arrested on January 12 at an address in Berwick.

Police told a hearing that they searched the room he was in and found identification papers stolen from the Ada Court and Kangaroo Road burglaries.

He was remanded in custody and will face Dandenong Magistrates Court on February 15.
