 Learners get an extra lesson

Learners get an extra lesson

06 Jul, 2009 12:44 PM
THE aftermath of the Hampton Park smash coincided with the launch last week of the Federal Government's keys2drive program for learner drivers.

The national driver education program will provide a free driving lesson for every learner driver and their parents from an accredited instructor, with tips for parents and mentors on supervising and training a learner driver. The program will be rolled out from September.

An interactive website will feature short instructional videos, educational games and the location of the nearest accredited driving instructor.

Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said young people were at greater risk of being involved in a fatal car accident than drivers from any other age group.

"Young people go from being some of the safest drivers when on their Ls to being the most likely to have a crash the moment they get their P plates," Mr Albanese said.
