THE BERWICK and District Journal was awarded the Fairfax Community Network 2009 Publication of the Year award last Tuesday night.
The paper was recognised for its commitment to community sponsorship, effective use of layout and design, depth of coverage and quality of writing.
Judges commented: "There is not an ounce of wasted space - articles demonstrate a good mix of local news features and entertainment."
It is the second time the Berwick Journal has won the award.
Huge haul in Narre burglary
A LARGE amount of money and jewellery was taken in a Narre Warren South daylight burglary.
The offenders entered through the back door of the Fleet Street property after 11am on Friday, November 20.
The offenders tried, but failed, to start a classic car parked in the garage.
Stuck in storm
Extreme weather changes caused "complete chaos" on Cardinia Shire roads during the last week.
Senior Constable Brad Cummins said although there were no major incidents, it was timely to remind motorists to drive to the conditions.
