THERE were smiles all round when the fireys came to town last weekend to personally visit Mackenzie 'Mack' Reid.
CFA brigades from Tynong and Bunyip made a special journey to Mack's home in Garfield to wish him the best of luck as he heads to hospital this week for a bone marrow transplant.
An hour-long ride in the truck, a beep of the horn and of course being able to blare the siren left Mack with a grin from ear to ear.
Earlier this year, Mack touched the hearts of the Cardinia Shire community as he courageously battled a rare form of leukaemia - so rare that only one other case exists in Australia. He has undergone intensive treatment and is now set to receive new bone marrow, thanks to an anonymous cord blood donation.
For Mack's mother Michelle, the community support has helped to get the family through the long ordeal.
"The support has just been wonderful - from fund-raising events to people just helping out where they can.
"I want to thank everyone who has been there for Mack and us all.
"I am just so pleased and I can continue to smile, because this is such a positive outcome."
