Hillview gets cash boost

27 Apr, 2009 09:39 AM
Bunyip's Hillview Aged Care centre has been given state funding of $4380 to recruit and train more volunteers.

Chief executive Frank Hoff said Hillview had 54 volunteers but could easily find work for up to 100.

"We have volunteers who come in several times a week while others help out once a month, so we have room for everyone," Mr Hoff said.

The funding is part of the State Government's Volunteer Small Grants program that is aimed at attracting and retaining volunteers through industry-specific training.

Eastern region MP Johan Scheffer said the grant would enable new volunteer positions at the aged-care centre and give existing volunteers confidence and skills to expand their duties.

"It's no exaggeration to say that many of our most important local organisations, events and services would simply cease to function if volunteers stopped giving their time," he said.

Hillview Aged Care is one of 26 community groups to receive funding.
