FORMER Casey councillor Michael Shepherdson last week announced he was running for the November elections to help combat infighting between councillors.
Mr Shepherdson, 46, who will stand in Cranbourne's Mayfield Ward, said the elections offered an opportunity to end council infighting by voting for candidates with a track record of working constructively and effectively with the community.
Mr Shepherdson, who has lived in the ward for 25 years, said his community work and links stretched across service and sporting clubs, residents' associations, schools and businesses.
If elected, he would run a monthly mobile office at local shopping centres for residents to raise council concerns.
A member of the Liberal Party, Mr Shepherdson said he was not endorsed or directed by the party.
Other candidates to recently announce they are standing include:
Cranbourne North resident and the Greens-endorsed candidate for Mayfield, John Rickard. Mr Rickard is concerned about social and environmental issues and is a member of the Westernport Action Group and the Morning Mist Recreation Reserve management committee.
Greens-endorsed candidate Lynette Keleher for the River Gum Ward. Ms Keleher is heavily involved with local environmental issues, including opposing the Taylors Road landfill in Lyndhurst.
Long-term Endeavour Hills resident Milroy Martyn for the Four Oaks Ward. Mr Martyn is promising to restore decorum to council meetings and to lobby for lower rates and the establishment of business centres in Casey to create jobs.
