HARKAWAY residents may not have to pay the full cost of sealing all of the township's roads and footpaths, depending on the outcome of a Casey council review.
The council is considering upgrading the town's infrastructure, but not before it reviews its special charge scheme policy.
The council has outlined $3.17 million of footpath, kerb and channel works on both sides of streets, including:
■ Sealing 1426 metres of road and building 2852m of footpath in Baker Road between Noack Road and Marks Court
■ Sealing 295m of road and building 590m of footpath in King Road from Harkaway Road to Baker Road
■ Constructing kerb and channels in Marks and St Fort courts and footpaths in six other streets.
Casey council engineering manager David Richardson said the council was reviewing its special charge scheme policy early this year. "The council's existing practice is that the property owners benefiting from the construction of local street infrastructure contribute to the full cost of the infrastructure through a special charge scheme.
Once completed, the review of the special charge scheme policy will be considered at a future meeting of the council.'
