THE Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition will be invited to set up shop in Casey - if only on a temporary basis.
At a meeting earlier this month, Casey Council voted to write to both sides of federal politics and ask them to hold community cabinet meetings in the municipality later this year.
Casey mayor Sam Aziz said 2012 was a very important year for the council. "We always need to be on the radar of our political decision-makers, state or federal.
"A community cabinet will provide the council and community leaders with an outstanding opportunity to campaign for vital development in Casey and bring challenges facing residents to the government's attention."
Cr Aziz said the invitations to Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott were part of the council's ongoing advocacy for critical infrastructure requirements, which included a recent meeting with federal Holt member Anthony Byrne.
The council's advocacy priorities for this financial year are:
■ State road improvements and more capacity on the Monash Freeway.
■ Construction of the Cranbourne Bypass
■ Broadband infrastructure
■ Extended and enhanced bus services
■ Local employment opportunities
■ Capacity of the Melbourne Water drainage system.
"The council has committed its efforts to following through the council plan and campaigning to see our advocacy priorities achieved to make Casey the most caring, safe, innovative and sustainable city," Cr Aziz said.
