IN the past three months a group of youths have established their own company, created a market for their product and are close to breaking even.
But despite their success, the company, named Wowyas, will be liquidated - all in the name of education.
It's all part of a program established by Youth Achievement Australia to prepare young people for the social and economic challenges they will face in their working lives.
The company is operated by youth looking for experience in the business world. Berwick's Kaleigh Innes, who is part of the company, says the product, named Stick-it, is an adhesive pocket that uses medical grade adhesive to stick to the skin.
The pocket caters for the busy lifestyles of today's youth.
"This tiny pocket is capable of carrying your cards, money, keys and even small phones, allowing you to stick them anywhere you please,'' Kaleigh says.
So far the sale of the product has exceeded expectations.
Wowya's marketing manager Dale Orders said the pockets had proved popular with travellers, clubbers and athletes.
Despite the success it will no longer be produced once the last Stick-it is sold, Kaleigh says.
Wowyas will be liquidated and profits donated to charity.
While it would be sad to see the company closing, she says she has gained valuable experience in the business industry.
