EastLink: Shire proves place to be for families

08 Jun, 2009 12:00 AM
RESIDENTIAL growth in Cardinia Shire has boomed with quarterly council figures showing at least four families move into the area each day, making it one of Victoria's top three fastest-growing municipalities.

Chief executive Garry McQuillan said high growth was reflected in the record number of building permits issued to March (543), a trend he expected to continue over the next 12 months.

Applications for residential lots in the Pakenham-Officer area for the first nine months of 2008-09 financial year had outnumbered the total number of applications for the past three years.

"The unprecedented levels of growth also underpin increases in consumer spending, business investment and housing construction."

The figures emphasised the shire's position as "a great place to live, work, raise a family and do business", all in a rural atmosphere close to Melbourne.
