READERS have come forward with petrol-siphoning stories following our coverage of the growing crime in last week's Journal.
A woman who parks her Holden Commodore at Berwick railway station, said petrol was siphoned from her tank three days in a row last November before she bought a lockable petrol cap.
"They got into the petrol tank door by initially slightly damaging the clip, making it easier for them to come back on subsequent days,'' said the woman, who did not want to be named.
"I reported the incident to police, who informed me that the Commodores are being targeted.''
The Journal previously highlighted the case of Mike Devlin, whose Commodore was twice siphoned about four months ago when parked at the Berwick railway station.
Numberplates stolen from his car on May 23 were used for a petrol station drive-off. The thief filled up and sped off without paying for the fuel.
Meanwhile, a man who's lived at King Street in central Dandenong for five years said petrol siphoning was rife in his street.
Lawrence, 66, who did not want his surname used, said he had not had any petrol stolen from his own car because he had bought a lockable petrol cap soon after moving in and becoming aware of the problem.
