Cycling way to a cure

28 Apr, 2008 03:25 PM
A GROUP of riders who set out on a 'Tour de Cure' from Melbourne to Sydney last month are thrilled with their fund-raising success.

Last week, the 26 riders and six support crew completed the charity ride which raised more than $400,000.

Combined with last year's inaugural ride, the team have raised almost $900,000.

"The support from the community and corporate Australia has been overwhelming," Tour de Cure spokeswoman Samantha Hollier-James said.

The group's most memorable moment was meeting several Casey cancer sufferers and survivors. Organisers Geoff Coombes and Gary Bertwistle said the idea of the ride was "to share their cancer journey".
