KEVIN Rudd's "working families" may be doing it a little easier this Christmas thanks to a $1000 present to be delivered in early December.
For Narre Warren South's Bradley family, the news comes as a timely boost.
Father-of-five Paul Bradley, a claims management lawyer, and his wife Lisa, a full-time mother, believe that if the Federal Government can afford such a giveaway, then there's no reason not to accept it.
"Any additional funds are always welcome, regardless of who is giving them," Mr Bradley said.
"It's a great leg-up from the Government."
Mr Bradley said that with three children at Berwick Fields Primary School and a fourth to start next year, the money would be gladly accepted.
"We don't classify ourselves as rich, but we are still not struggling like some families. We often feel we are going two steps forward and one step back, but this money will be good for school fees, uniforms and everyday living."
Mr Bradley said that while he did not want to overanalyse the funding, he felt it may cause problems in other areas of the economic market.
"Mr Rudd's announcement came as a bit of a surprise.
"I'm surprised that the budget surplus was to be spent in this way."
