Casey ponders how to spend $2.2m

24 Nov, 2008 11:36 AM
CASEY has been handed a $2.2million federal windfall to help boost local infrastructure - and the economy.

Chief executive Mike Tyler said potential projects, to be decided by the incoming council, would need to fit the Government's criteria.

"They will need to be projects which are easily planned and easily delivered, as the money must be spent by September next year," Mr Tyler said.

Casey's grant, the second highest of all Victorian councils, is its part of the $300million in funding from the regional and local infrastructure program shared by Australia's 565 local council areas.

Councils will be able to apply for funding to build or repair existing public parks, town halls, community centres, swimming pools, sports grounds, libraries and tourism infrastructure.

La Trobe federal MP Jason Wood suggested Casey spend part of the money on Berwick street lighting.
