Bowling club fears for future

24 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM

PAKENHAM Bowls Club faces a grim future without installation of a third green at its Anderson Street premises, says president Kevin Donald.

"If anyone comes to the club to play men's pennant we cannot guarantee them a game and therefore someone is going to miss out.

"We've found that a lot of players are going to Berwick because they have five greens, and so the club is not seeing any growth."

Mr Donald said the 180-member strong club had been in lengthy discussions with Cardinia Shire Council about its options.

Last month, the council halted its plans to sell a car park, used by members, across the road from the bowling club. It has also agreed to review its PB Ronald Reserve master plan to investigate the feasibility of a third green within the reserve.

Mr Donald has also proposed that a disused council maintenance shed next to the bowling club could be one site for expansion.

The council will report on its review of the PB Ronald master plan and outline possible funding options for construction of a third green at its September meeting.

It did not respond to the Journal before deadline.
