 Bike track gets thumbs down

Bike track gets thumbs down

31 Mar, 2008 08:48 AM
A MOTORCYCLE-riding entrepreneur's dreams of setting up a recreational track in the City of Casey have been dashed again.

Casey Council last week refused to grant a planning permit for a commercial motorcycle track.

Applicant Wayne Maslen said he had been trying for about two years to establish a track in the region.

In his latest request, he had plans for three separate riding areas - juniors, intermediate and advanced - car parking, administration office with refreshment and first aid areas, and a screen of plants on the outer boundaries around the property.

Mr Maslen's proposal was rejected on the grounds that it was inappropriate in a green wedge zone.

The application also received 18 objections relating to the impact on native flora and fauna, noise, traffic, dust and property devaluation.

Casey councillor Colin Butler said the council's decision complied with its planning rules and regulations.

"Leave Tooradin as the vibrant tourism and boating location the city has and site it where it's needed."

Cr Kevin Bradford - who was joined by Crs Wayne Smith, Rob Wilson, Michael Farley and Paul Richardson in support of the track - said the problem of illegal motorbike riding would worsen.
