THE City of Casey's Riding of the Bounds has been postponed for the first time in 20 years after advice from the Department of Primary Industries.
The DPI advised council that, although the risk was low, last year's outbreak of equine influenza still posed a threat.
Casey Mayor Janet Halsall said the decision to postpone was a precautionary measure. "This most difficult decision was made following consultation with the DPI, which advised us that postponing the event was a safer option."
The Riding of the Bounds is part of a British tradition that involves residents riding on horseback around the Berwick-Upon-Tweed borough in Northumberland to protect its borders.
