CHANGE your clock, change your smoke alarm battery - for years this slogan has been drummed into homeowners as part of the annual fire safety campaign.
At 2am this Sunday Victorians have to put their clocks back an hour.
The Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Country Fire Authority are reminding all Victorians to also change their smoke alarm batteries.
Last year more than 11,000 residential fires across Australia resulted in the loss of 70 lives - 19 in Victoria.
"It's tragic when you think lives could have been saved for as little as $5, the price of a long-lasting alkaline battery," MFB Assistant Fire Chief officer Rob Taylor said.
