EMERALD'S popular Performing and Arts festival comes alive in April with a special 150th anniversary celebration of the discovery of gold in the town.
The PAVE event, supported by Cardinia Council, highlights the talents of many locals from Friday to April 13 across a number of Emerald venues.
It aims to bring the streets alive and build community strength through the arts.
The festival is entirely organised by volunteers and community groups.
Ranges Ward councillor Graeme Legge said the festival was a fantastic opportunity to experience the arts and artistic talents of locals and celebrate the 150th anniversary.
He said many events were celebrating gold discovery including a live performance from the Gemco Theatre Company of A Jewel in the Hills Set in Gold and a historic bus tour of Emerald along the gold trail and old bakery site.
Emerald Lake Park will also hold a number of events, including an arts show hosted by the Emerald Arts Society, pantomime of Little Red and Robin Hood, live music, children's activities and a market.
Cr Ed Chatwin said The Friends of Emerald Library would hold a used book sale at the Emerald Mechanics Hall from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, April 12.
"It will be really good to see the park enhanced with these activities during the festival."
Events at the festival include the Great Wall of Art exhibition outside Emerald Community House and a youth short film festival.
There will also be an indigenous storytelling, a poets' breakfast, live music and a family day at Puffing Billy Park.
